Friday Faves
Two good things in the world this week: Author Peter Heller and the National Theatre's Prima Facie.
New to me and highly recommended:
Every novel ever written by Peter Heller. These are the three that I’ve finished in the past weeks. I’m about done with a fourth, Celine, and have a fifth, The River, on my bedside table. The Dog Stars is my favorite to date. All are set in beautiful landscapes: Yellowstone, New Mexico, Colorado; and although Heller grew up in New York City, sophistication never gets in the way of his telling a good tale almost always involving a fisherman, often a pilot, some kind of artist, guns, sharpshooting, and a bit of violence. So good.
I’m a big fan of one-person theatrical performances. With the right script, actor, director, and production, they are unforgettable. Prima Facie is one such tour de force. I saw the film version from the National Theatre Live when it screened at the Shakespeare Theatre Company in DC. You can still catch it on the National Theater Live’s website through March 5. Well worth the $12.99 to subscribe for the month.
You?
thanks, Sheila!
