Powerful images and memories, Sheila. Thank you for reminding me of how much I have to be grateful for, and that I need to be mindful all the time of helping others.
Abigail, thank you so much for reading and commenting. What you say is true. We have so much to be grateful for, and the effect of helping others can never be truly measured.
Yes, the essay is lengthy and twisty, a metaphor for the immigrants' ride North! Your interweaving of personal experiences with the narrative is brilliant.
I think the author was criticized for not being Latino when she chose to tackle this subject matter?? Like her, you have proven that observation and imagination supersede the need to be Latino to write about Latinos' immigrant experiences.
The subject of immigration far exceeds one racial group's experience. Would that more people be "woke" about the world around them. Maybe then humanity could begin to heal itself and people would not have to feel the need to flee at any cost.
Jay, I so appreciate your comment. I took a big risk in making this a super long essay. I like writing short and I like reading short, so I am encouraged that you made it to the end. Thank you, friend.

Oh, thank you, Maureen. I am glad that at least one other person made it to the end of the essay.
You are right. I think I remember mention of the possible criticism of the author. Goodness, she's a guide. She does it well.
I appreciate your comments.
Thank you, Sheila, for another extraordinary essay. I highly enjoy these. You are awesome!

Sheila, I finished the essay wishing there was more!
After that lift, I might have to drive up to B'more and take you out to lunch. Thank you so much. You have turned the tide of my day.
Would love to see you anytime!
