Cannot tell you how honored I am to be the impetus of this reflection, and these words of delight and wisdom. I love all your reasons. Something must have been churning inside of you for a long time for you to be so ready and open to receive love.
Sheila - so funny you mentioning Regina. Like, of course, you know each other. But then I remembered that I met you in Poland and Regina in Bangladesh so perhaps you only “know” each other via writing? She’s a beautiful writer as are you!
Carmen, worlds colliding, eh? When I first read Regina, I thought: She must know someone I know from USAID, but no, it turns out she knows you, from Polska times. She is a wonderful writer whom I stumbled upon here on Substack. Thanks for connecting the dots and always, for reading and commenting.
I’m so happy that you’re in a good place! We all come to accepting the good and not so good in ourselves.
It takes effort to talk and it’s exhausting but sometimes so worth it. We are optimists in the Maloney/Callahan family and I’m grateful for where I am.
Of course I do, Chiara. Thanks for that dose of Emily Dickinson, too. Surely it’s National Poetry Month, isn’t it? They haven’t taken that away yet, have they?

Stumbling upon your Substack is the only Doge silver lining I know of.
I could not love this post more! And Sheila, I think you should write that book! Love you.
You are another of my UES treasures, Abigail. Thank you for always, year in and year out, supporting my writing.

Love and and best wishes! ❤️🙏
Here's to the optimists!
Proud to be one of your Canadian friends, Sheila!
You know I put Canada in for that exact reason!!
Yes please, write that book. ❤️
I will dedicate to the one I love, SKB.
And a friend in Maine! 😘
Optimism and hope!
Hope is the thing with feathers- That perches in the soul-
And sings the tune without the words/And never stops -at all-

You also have a devoted friend in Atlanta.
And you, in Alexandria.
